Click on a standard for its scope, quality testing and what the purchase order must contain.

MIL-DTL-5541

The standard has the following scope: Chromating of aluminium.

The MIL-DTL-5541 standard covers 2 different types of passivation of aluminium and 2 classes. We perform passivation in accordance with MIL-DTL-5541 type II (free of hexavalent chromium). The process is monitored against the requirements of the standard by our own laboratory. We carry out all required tests at fixed intervals.

We perform third-party inspection of the process, which can be made available on request.

Quality testing:

  • Salt spray test (ASTM B 117)
  • Measurement of voltage drop (Class 3)

We include a COC and test reports on request.

When ordering a surface treatment of a part in accordance with MIL-DTL-5541, the following must be stated on the purchase order:

  • Reference to the standard here, e.g. MIL-DTL-5541F
  • Which type of passivation: e.g. Type II
  • Which class: Class 1A or 3
  • Special production requirements, including any additional requirements for packaging, masking, etc. prior to surface treatment
  • Colour requirements and uniformity
  • Instructions regarding specific contact marks
  • If any contact marks are to be removed by touch-up, this must be clearly indicated
  • Acceptance criteria for quality inspection

It is important, both for us and for you, that we understand your requirements. We are therefore happy to spend a little time making sure the purchase order is as comprehensive as possible, so that we can produce your product in accordance with the requirements you set.

AMS 2700 / QQ-P-35

The standard has the following scope: Passivation of stainless steel. The AMS 2700 standard covers 2 different methods of passivation and 8 types. We perform passivation of stainless steel in accordance with AMS 2700 method 1; passivation in nitric acid, type 6 low temperature or 7 medium temperature.

The standard specifies 4 classes; the classes determine how many units must be tested during production. We follow your purchase order, and where nothing is specified, class 2 is applied. The process is monitored against the requirements of the standard by our own laboratory. We carry out all required tests at the intervals laid down in the standard.

We perform third-party inspection of the process, which can be made available on request.

Quality testing:

  • Salt spray test (ASTM B 117)

We include a COC and test reports on request.

When ordering a surface treatment of a part in accordance with AMS 2700, the following must be stated on the purchase order:

  • Reference to the standard here, e.g. AMS 2700C
  • Which method, type: e.g. Method 1, type 6
  • Which class: Class 2
  • Special production requirements, including any additional requirements for packaging

It is important, both for us and for you, that we understand your requirements. We are therefore happy to spend a little time making sure the purchase order is as comprehensive as possible, so that we can produce your product in accordance with the requirements you set.

MIL-DTL-13924

The standard has the following scope: Black oxidation of steel and stainless steel. The MIL-DTL-13924 standard covers 4 different classes. We perform black oxidation in accordance with MIL-DTL-13924 class 4, with or without oil.

The process is monitored against the requirements of the standard by our own laboratory. We carry out all required tests at the intervals laid down in the standard.

We perform third-party inspection of the process, which can be made available on request.

Quality testing:

  • Salt spray test (ASTM B 117)
  • Colour comparison
  • Gloss measurement, if applicable

We include a COC and test reports on request.

When ordering a surface treatment of a part in accordance with MIL-DTL-13924, the following must be stated on the purchase order:

  • Reference to the standard here, e.g. MIL-DTL-13924D
  • Which class?
  • Special production requirements, including any additional requirements for packaging
  • Colour requirements, reference to colour chip number and uniformity
  • Gloss measurement, if applicable
  • Acceptance criteria for quality inspection
